Academic standards take precedence in every classroom at Cunha. Thematic units are strategically implemented across various grade levels to enhance the core curriculum comprehensively. All educators at Cunha hold full credentials.

Each student benefits from 50 minutes of daily language arts instruction, facilitating robust academic advancement in reading, writing, and language skills. Furthermore, all students have the opportunity to engage with subjects including language arts, math, science, and social studies. Our elective options are designed to promote diverse social and academic development.

 

Sixth Grade: In sixth grade, all students participate in the following subjects:

  • Language Arts
  • Math (Common Core Math 6)
  • Science
  • Social Studies
  • Physical Education
  • Elective

Students have the option to engage in an 8-week exploratory wheel encompassing subjects like Drama, Visual Arts/Craft, Music Appreciation, Spanish Immersion, Agriculture, STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics), and Leadership (e.g., ASB and Web Leader).

Alternatively, students can choose to enroll in our year-round music program, spanning all three years (6th, 7th, and 8th grade).

Furthermore, every sixth-grader has the chance to partake in San Mateo Outdoor Education week. Keep an eye out for announcements regarding a parent meeting and additional information in the fall.

Seventh Grade: All seventh-grade students participate in the following subjects:

 

  • Language Arts
  • Math (Common Core Math 7)
  • Social Science
  • Physical Education
  • Elective

 

Seventh graders may choose to participate in the 7th-grade wheel, which includes options like Shop, Art, Drama, Home Economics, Computers, and Music Appreciation. Alternatively, they can opt for a full year of Concert Band.

Eighth Grade: In the eighth grade, all students engage in the following subjects and activities:

  • Language Arts
  • Math (Common Core Math 8 and Common Core Algebra 1)
  • Science - Students are involved in creating science projects and participating in the Science Fair.
  • Social Studies - In addition to the core curriculum, students have an exciting opportunity to take part in a week-long field trip to Washington D.C.
  • Physical Education
  • Electives - Students can choose from Spanish Immersion, Leadership that includes ASB and Web Leader, Music Appreciation, and STEAM (Science Technology Engineering Arts Mathematics).
